Studiolo is pleased to present the solo-show of Charlotte Herzig titled Stanchezza Passegera.
For her first solo show in Italy, the artist creates an encounter between five unedited works made of different aesthetic and temporal matrices; a window into her recent artistic journey composed of geometric abstractions of complex but tenuous formal junctures.
Impalpable pictorial levels are layered on blank and smooth surfaces made with chalk, revealing the modus operandi of Herzig, who creates her works in dilated time, after long periods of meditation, rethinking, and then quick conclusions.
Each work appears to abstract itself from the others through the extensive use of empty space and a series of wall paintings that, realised with acrylic paint, deviate and expand from the non-mural painting, celebrating it and suspending it as if it were poised on a virtual two-dimensional base. The images that swirl on the wall isolate, but at the same time connect, the different works that harmonically incorporate themselves into the rhythm of colourful murals or light lines of graphite, all continuing the imaginative story told by the paintings.
A lithograph, printed with 15 specimens but made into a single work by the use of watercolour, displays the reflexive practise of Herzig, who, in her treatment of the superimposition of layers, finds her intrinsic form of expression.
Like a mantra, the lengthy elaboration of the artworks reveals a quasi-obsessive practise that references art-brut and pays homage through its expressive modality and planned rigour to the works of the Swiss outsider Emma Kunz.
